You might want to get out more, and park your butt in a Eames chair. Every Eames-designed chair is very comfortable, upholstered or not!
BTW, why the heavily biased comparison? Surely you can find an upholstered version of that Eames chair and refurbish it.
Let's see:
Steelcase Chair: -weighs a ton, looks dull, uses quite a bit of materials, (the Eames rule: "Do the maximum with the minimum.", which the fiberglass shell exemplifies.
- Most likely to be found on Craigslist free section, or in junk stores and government offices where the last new furniture purchase for anything other than (flimsy Steelcase) file cabinets was in 1963.
- And no, it's not comfortable for more than about 15 minutes, if that.
Herman Miller/Eames chair:
- Sleek, timeless design which fits into many different styles, not to mention high-end ads.
- Still in demand, and commanding high prices at (greed-driven?) dealers.
T.Way, stick to shoes; which I hope are more comfortable than that old battle-axe Steelcase chair!
Nice work on the Steelcase chair! Clear winner. I'm not biased or anything, since I work at Steelcase. :)
ReplyDeleteNeither look all that comfy long-term, but they weren't designed to be that, I suppose.
